AN HISTORIC MEETING VENUE IN KENT
When you are planning any event, be it in either your personal or business life, then I am quite sure that you would prefer a venue that has some “atmosphere” rather than a very modern building. If you are looking for a MEETING VENUE IN KENT then I can safely say that our hotel here in Bromley has the most amazing gardens and a wonderful building that is steeped in history.
In fact Bromley Court, the building that stands today, was constructed by Baron Farnborough in 1801. The Baron was known, oddly, as the “King’s Spectacles”simply because of his influence on the Regency Kings George IV and William IV. The Regency Court arrived on Bromley Hill a number of times; always present were the Prime Ministers of the age, William Pitt the Younger and the Duke of Wellington.
Well known as a collector, patron of the Arts, published writer and artist, Baron Farnborough was a founder of the Royal Academy of Arts, the Royal Institution of British Architects and the British Museum. Interestingly, when King George IV decided to remodel Windsor Castle the Baron even drew up the plans. The Baron’s wife, Amelia Lane, was also an artist. In fact she was the designer of the Italianate Gardens including the two large clay urns which can still be seen in the castle gardens today.
After the death of Baron Farnborough the Estate was sadly broken up; part of it went on to be developed as housing. Bromley Court itself was converted into a Hotel in 1931 by Leon Frenkel, a successful businessman.
