Every year the last week in June heralds the start of the Wimbledon Tennis Championship, a dramatic fortnight of tennis where all the world’s top players battle it out to win the No.1 ranking title and to see their name on beautiful Wimbledon trophy. When you think about Wimbledon most people think about tennis, for me it’s the strawberries and cream!
When I am sitting at the table on the terrace of one of the most beautiful hotels in Kent enjoying a quintessential afternoon tea…delicious sandwiches, freshly baked scones and cake and of course strawberries and cream, I have to confess that tennis is the last thing on my mind. There is nothing quite like a typical afternoon tea taken amid stunning gardens in the warmth of a summer’s afternoon.
Of course this wonderful hotel not only has a reputation for afternoon tea but is also one of the most sought after wedding venues in Kent. It’s easy to see why when you take a tour of the beautiful house and learn of it’s history. This hotel in Kent had rightly earned a fantastic reputation, just as the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament has gained an immense following of millions of fans from around the world since its first competition in 1877.
It has become the most anticipated sporting event of the summer attracting royal patronage and huge numbers of enthusiastic spectators who come to enjoy delicious strawberries and cream while watching the finals played on the famous Centre Court and No.1 Court.
I know it now seems such a long time ago when Andy Murray, on that glorious day in July, lifted the Wimbledon Men’s Trophy high above his head but so far this year the 2015 Wimbledon Tournament has got off to a fine start for him…here’s keeping our fingers crossed!
